Friday 25th May 2018 Stanley Bragg Architects attended the opening of Littlegarth School, Colchester.
We have been involved in all stages of this project; working directly with the School we provided a feasibility study for the expansion then secured the Planning Permission. The project was traditionally tendered, SEH French were successful who then delivered the project.
Littlegarth School is located in Horkesley Park, Colchester and is one of the most successful independent schools in the region. In recent years the school has achieved outstanding academic results and has built a strong reputation in sport and the arts. Littlegarth also achieved the top grade of ‘Excellent’ in every category of the ISI inspections of 2014 and 2017.
Littlegarth is situated in beautiful grounds in an area designated to be of ‘outstanding natural beauty’ and for years many of the classes have been situated in what were, originally, bedrooms of a Georgian house. In 2006 the School built a large Sports Hall which brought more breadth to the curriculum, and in October 2016 work began to build new facilities to enhance the academic opportunities available to children across the school and to support the teaching of the arts.
The new building incorporates two Reception classrooms, which are situated next to the existing nursery building. Two Year 6 classrooms on the ground floor next to a large integrated library and IT suite. The library will provide ample space for project work and study. Above the library there are two Year 5 classrooms as well as a spacious art, DT classroom and a learning support room for the senior year groups. The building also includes a performing arts department comprising adjacent spacious studios for music and drama.
Approx. contract value £2.3 million.
